MG4 Buyers Have Limited Window Before 2026 Model Shift

Sydney – MG Motor Australia is signalling change for its electric hatch range, with the current rear-wheel-drive (RWD) and all-wheel-drive (AWD) MG4 available only for a limited time before a revised line-up arrives in 2026.

The 2025 MG4 is offered in RWD and AWD form with 51kWh, 64kWh and 77kWh battery options. The entry-level 51kWh RWD model remains one of the few EVs under $40,000 drive-away, pairing competitive range with a more engaging driving layout than is typical in the price bracket.

MG says the next major update, due Q2 2026, will bring a broader choice of drivetrains. A new, more affordable front-wheel-drive (FWD) variant will target city use, offered with 43kWh and 54kWh batteries. RWD and AWD will continue in 64kWh guise, aimed at drivers wanting greater range and performance, though at higher price points than today’s equivalent cars.

CEO Peter Ciao said the shift balances “driver usage needs and production cost considerations,” noting the 2026 FWD version will be “a completely different vehicle, perfect for the city.”

For buyers who value rear- or all-wheel-drive dynamics in an EV at a relatively low entry price, the current MG4 range represents a final opportunity before the change. Once 2026 stock arrives, RWD will no longer be offered at the sub-$40K level.

Pricing and full details of the 2026 MG electric line-up will be announced closer to launch.
